Lady Kendra and Lord Cailin Pretty Baby and Duchess Leonie
Our two pair of breeders are paired up and too young to breed as yet. They do
love to hang out, and are bonding day by day. Check back here in the spring and
we hope to have nesting photos with at least one of the pair, Duchess Leonie and
Pretty Baby, who are older than Lady Kendra and Lord Cailin. We hope to be able
to offer hand fed but weaned baby caiques in the summer of 2002 or 2003, birds
willing.
Lady Kendra and Lord Cailin were the models for our logo. We chose caiques
because they are our favorites. All our birds are loved equally, but if we had
to choose a favorite specie, caiques would be it. Working in a parrot
store, you meet many different species of parrots and of all the types I have
met and worked with, caiques are the most outgoing, hands-on, playful and almost
puppy-like of them all. 
Duchess Leonie and Pretty Baby
Duchess Leonie is a parent-raised DNA sexed
female from wild-caught parents. She is approximately 2 years old and a
beautifully plumaged fairly large female. She is very hand-shy, non-aggressive
yet not fearful and will tolerate no intimate human approach. She is fully
flighted at this time and has perfect feet, wings and her beak and talons are
naturally groomed. She was purchased from and shipped by Gloria Balabran at Shady
Pines Aviary in Florida. She was very helpful and concerned for the best
interest of the bird. I was very impressed with both Gloria and Duchess Leonie.
Duchess came to live with us April 4th, 2001. She went immediately into a
6x6x3 aviary in our covered patio. She lived there alone until Duke Pretty Baby
came to live with her August 10th, 2001.While Duchess lied there alone, she had
daily visits from both myself and my husband Kevin, as well as playing with the
dogs. Our two Rottweillers were intrigued by Duchess and she by them. We
immediately installed acrylic sheets next to the aviary to prevent any actual
physical meeting between the two. Once Duchess discovered they could not reach
her, she took to laying on her back by the bars on the floor. She would grasp a
millet spray and wave it back and forth tauntingly at the dogs. 
Pretty Baby was purchased from Omar's Exotic
Birds By Fran March 31st, 2001. He was hand raised from Day One by Diane
Nahmie of Torrance California. He was three years of age and also DNA
sexed.
Cailin was purchased from Omar's Exotic Birds By Fran at eight months of age
and DNA sexed as a male. He is a very athletic and playful caique.
